DROUGHT CONTINUES BEGINNING OF 2005:
We were entering our 7th year of severe drought here in SW and SC ND. We had very little snow all last Winter, allot of ice, but no real moisture. It was starting to get real scary, where would we be able to get hay from or be able to afford to have it shipped in to feed our horses later this year, when we ran out of hay.
We ordered in 20+ ton of 730 pound square 2004 wheat grass hay bales from the Eastern part of ND. It was a hard decision to make, do we wait and see if it will rain or not? But it could of been worse, if we were to wait and it did not rain. And with the price of fuel going up to record highs as promised.
This decision seemed to cause the drought to break, for in late May it began to rain again. No longer a drought this year anyway in North Dakota.
We'd been thinking that there is something around making our horses nervous. A Mountain Lion had been sited North of here by a few people, so we thinking that was a problem. (Seemed to get better by Summer.)
ABOUT OUR HORSES:
WE SOLD EDINA WITEZ BA --
Had an e-mail in March from the lady in
Temecula, CA that had bought CREDO, the bay tobiano pinto gelding from us last
May 2004. Liz asked if she could purchase EDINA (our 2004 Liver filly by AN
OPUS ECLIPSE, our pure Polish black stallion by OPUS ONE+ out of DANA WITEZ BA,
our lovely 16.4% *WITEZ II blue black EL NIGADIN daughter), but she would only
do so if we let her purchase a black colt this year, should we have one.
WELL, OF COURSE SHE MAY!!! Liz is an Endurance rider. Her husband is a farrier and does the farrier articles for Equus magazine.
SAD NEWS ON DAMA WITEZ --
DAMA WITEZ (Edina's grandam) passed
away. DAMA spent the first eight years of her life with her breeder, Barbara
Lanham in NM; then the next eleven years with Witez Black Arabians and the last
year of her life in the warmer climate of WA. Much loved by her new owner Dana
Pedersen. DAMA's last foal was a black filly foaled April 29, 2004, DMARA WITEZ
BA by AN OPUS ECLIPSE, our Pure Polish Black stallion. DAMA passed away
peaceably in her sleep March 2, 2005. She was twenty years old this year.
Sadly, DAMA was in foal by HA SIRIBIN WITEZ (Maggie's sire) for June 2005, her
foal was to be returned to Witez Black Arabians.
DALIN WITEZ BA --
We took DALIN off of our sales list, since
DALIN's dam, DAMA passed away. DALIN had calmed down, become quite friendly and
sweet. DALIN has so much type with the most beautiful head and neck!! She looks
so much like her late dam, DAMA.
MORE SAD NEWS WE LOST LAYLA --
We lost our future black homozygous
broodmare LAYLA, Friday evening April 8th. LAYLA was a beautiful blue black
mare with a star and connected strip. Sired by our late blue black NIGA son, EL
NIGADIN. EL NIGADIN was foaled 26 years ago on April 8th. Sadly he is no longer
with us nor his last daughter, LAYLA the last of his total of 79 foals. LAYLA
was out of the late pretty black NIGA granddaughter, LADY BRIQUETTE, with
lineage to FERNEYN and BAMBY. We were looking forward to using her for one of
our treasured brood mares, but unforeseen circumstances befall some of the best
horses. LAYLA will be missed.
DANA WITEZ BA --
DANA WITEZ BA is now the only remaining El
Nigadin daughter retained by WITEZ BLACK ARABIANS.
HA SIRTEN MAGIC "Maggie" --
We were planning on having Maggie
trained to ride last Spring, but now Maggie will be taking LAYLA's place and we
bred her instead.
NEW FOAL --
ELANA WITEZ BA, a beautiful liver chestnut filly was
foaled on June 6, 2005. ELANA is out of DANA WITEZ BA, our lovely 16.4% *WITEZ
II blue black EL NIGADIN daughter and by AN OPUS ECLIPSE, Pure Polish black by
OPUS ONE+ out of SATURNIA by STRIKE. ELANA WITEZ BA has 27 lines to OFIR,
renowned sire of *Witez II. ELANA WITEZ BA is offered for sale. She should make
someone a very nice broodmare and/or riding horse. Her 2004 full sister, EDINA
WITEZ BA was purchased by her new owner to become a future Endurance
horse.
SERYA GLORY BE --
SERYA GLORY BE, a *Witez II Preservation mare is
On Lifetime Lease to Finn and Dana Pedersen in Lakebay, WA. GLORY is being bred
to their 28.1% *WITEZ II PRESERVATION black stallion, HA SIRIBN WITEZ (Maggie's
sire) to better enhance both of our breeding programs. GLORY foaled her first
foal, a black filly June 12, 2005.
NEW HOMOZYGOUS BLACK HERD SIRE --
We picked up our new junior herd
sire on June 10th. EOPOLUS AHR 588055. (Opus One+ X Epilogia WMF). Foaled
5/25/2001. EOPOLUS (Elvis) is a Pure Polish Homozygous Black Stallion. Breeders
Sweepstakes Nominated Sire. A very friendly young stallion with a star. He is
big and full bodied with the most powerful action. EOPOLUS has 16 lines to
OFIR, who is the renown sire of *Witez II.
WE SOLD AN OPUS ECLIPSE --
We offered AN OPUS ECLIPSE, our pure
Polish black stallion by OPUS ONE+ and out of SATURNIA by STRIKE for sale.
ECLIPSE has 18 lines to OFIR, who is the renown sire of *WITEZ II. ECLIPSE has
a wonderful disposition. A very SPECIAL stallion. We had wished we could of
kept both him and his half brother, but our place is just to small to justify
such a decision. EOPOLUS (Elvis) has a wonderful disposition too. We are so
happy about that, it made it easier missing ECLIPSE when he left for his new
home.
ECLIPSE and ELVIS would play across the fence with each other. It was interesting to watch them sniff at each other, then play and run. I think that says allot about their personalities and dispositions. Liz, who purchased CREDO last May 2004 and EDINA in March 2005 bought ECLIPSE, her sire. Liz had been wanting a black colt by ECLIPSE, but in the end was able to purchase ECLIPSE himself. Liz is extremely pleased with ECLIPSE. She says she loves everything about him and ECLIPSE reminds her of her old now returned black endurance gelding. She said she couldn't be more happy. She said it must of been hard for us to let him go. Yes it was, ECLIPSE is a wonderful horse. Extremely loving. ECLIPSE will be one of Liz's new endurance horses.
FILLY FROM TBA SKIPPER --
We got our first Palomino foal back out
of TBA SKIPPER July 23rd. I drove the truck with horse trailer for the first
time and Lyle rode in the back with GOLDIN, when we picked her up. GOLDIN is on
our Next Generation page, being a double granddaughter of El Nigadin and
Dalin's half sister by Nickohli Witez BA. Goldin Din Witez BA HAHR 2A358200.
Foaled May 18, 2005. Approx. 7/8 Arabian Palomino filly with star. 11.62% WITEZ
II WITH NINE LINES. Our plans at this time, are to raise GOLDIN to be one of
our future riding horses. Sadly the lady that raised GOLDIN the first two
months of her life and the owner of her dam, TBA SKIPPER passed away at only 32
years of age, just a month and a half later leaving behind her husband and five
children, of which one child was an infant five week old daughter.
TRAIL RIDING:
We got back from our trip to the ND Badlands with FANCY and KAPTAIN on Monday June 27th. Rode everyday, good riding! River was higher, than ever before. But it didn't stop us from crossing it several times. Rode around 60 miles in the four days of riding. Rained Saturday night hard, but we were able to ride Sunday by afternoon. Rode all Sunday afternoon in mist and light rain, it didn't rain hard until after we got back in the evening.
Over Labor Day weekend we went with our two riding horses, KAPTAIN and FANCY to the the ND Killdeer Mt State Park. Fantastic place to ride. It can be easy or hard riding, whatever you want to make it. It can be very challenging.
The middle of September we took our two riding horses, KAPTAIN and FANCY to Maplewood, MN Sate Park. Just East of Pelican Rapids, MN. We had three fun days of riding and got through all their trails. Rather simple riding, compared to the usual kind of riding we do, when we go on trips with our riding horses, but great fun just the same. We met our friends from MN and WI there. My Mom, Sister, her husband and my Nephew also came. Twelve in our group.

for 2006. Both are due to foal April 24, 2006.
We are now planning on cutting back to four broodmares, probably only breeding two each year. We hope to be able to get into offering shipped semen from our new Pure Polish Homozygous Black stallion, EOPOLUS (Elvis). We're extremely happy with the resulting foals being produced by crossing our Pure Polish black stallion with our linebred *Witez II black mares.
